Imphal, August 12 2010: One of two cousin brothers, picked up by a combined security force team on charges of being activists of the proscribed KYKL, has died while in the custody of the security force.

As per police report, troops of 12 Madras Regiment and Bishnupur district police commandos arrested Naorem Modhusing Singh (25) s/o N Mangoljao and Naorem Budhachandra (22) s/o N Khamba, both from Khoijumantabi Maning Leikai late last night.

Mangoljao and Khamba are brothers.

It is informed that Officer in-charge of Kumbi police station received the lifeless body of Modhusing when the cousins were handed over at around 10.30 am today.

A police source disclosed that inspite of the combined security team arresting the cousins on charges of being KYKL activists, the Madras Regiment in its report did not enclose seizure of either incriminating documents or weapons from the possession of the two youths.

The source, however, quoted the Regiment report as saying that Modhusing collapsed on the way and was rushed to the unit hospital of 33 Assam Rifles at Sendra tourist home only to breathe his last at around 2.40 am today.

According to family members, Modhusing and Budhachandra were picked up by the Sangaikot-based 12 Madras Regiment troops and Bishnupur police commandos from their respective homes at around 11 pm yesterday.

The security personnel reportedly asked the cousin brothers to handover weapons.

Soon after they were taken away, the locals along with pradhan of Borayangbi Gram Panchayat hired a passenger bus and enquired whereabouts of the arrested duo at kumbi police station but were told to come back in the morning with an assurance that 'nothing will happen'.

The cousins are said to be innocent persons engaged in agricultural activities.

Coincidentally, an LP School teacher namely Chingtham Ningthem (38) from the same locality as the arrested duo, but presently staying at his wife place in Napat, enquired whether Modhusing is at home to which the father replied his son was watching television.

Moments after Ningthem left the security personnel arrived and apprehended the cousins, maintained family members who further contended that some times back Ningthem had traded off a camouflage waist coat to Modhusing at Rs 20.The same waist coat was seized during the arrest of Modhusing.

While conceding that cause of Modhusing's death could not be established, the police source informed of the body being deposited to RIMS morgue.

A large number of women folk stormed Moirang police station when the body was initially kept there but due to intervention of Kumbi AC MLA N Mangi Singh the agitated crowd calmed down.

The MLA assuring to convey the matter to the Chief Minister also urged the womenfolk to prepare a complaint memorandum to the CM.
