Several vehicles stranded in Tengnoupal

Kakching, September 01 2015: Several vehicles were stranded in Tengnoupal area due to flash bandh along the Imphal-Moreh Section of National Highway-102 imposed by Joint Tribal Students' Organisations of the State against the introduction and passing of three Bills in the Manipur Assembly on August 31 last.

Over 100 passengers and goods carrying vehicles coming from Moreh were stranded at Tengnoupal Police Station since Tuesday morning.

Vehicles coming from Imphal could not proceed beyond Saivom Village as bandh enforcers blocked the highway at Saivom and Tengnoupal Village.

Speaking to media persons, Kuki Students Organisation (KSO) Tengnoupal Block President Daniel Mate said that the bandh was enforced indefinitely in support of the call given by All Tribal Students Union, Manipur; All Naga Students' Association Manipur and Kuki Students' Organisation against the introduction and passing of The Protection of Manipur Peoples Bill 2015; The Manipur Land Revenues & Land Reforms (7th Amendment) Bill 2015 and The Manipur Shops & Establishments (2nd Amendment) Bill 2015 by the State Government.

He also strongly condemned the indiscriminate firing towards the civilians causing injury to several protesters and instantly killing some others in Churachandpur on Monday night.

While appealing all "not to paint communal tint" towards the agitation, Daniel also maintained that the students bodies will protect and uphold the rights of the tribals at any cost.
