Imphal, January 28 2019:
Co-ordinating Body, Khurai, a body of local clubs, Meira Paibis and working class of Khurai, has warned the India Government to think before forcefully implementing/enacting the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 for there is a great possibility that the people of Manipur might demand for Manipur Constitution Act 1947 instead of following the Indian Constitution.
A press release issued by the co-ordinator of the body maintained that the attempt of the Central Government to root out the indigenous people of the North East, cannot be allowed or implemented in the entire NE region.
It claimed that Manipur Constitution Act is one of the oldest constitutions in Asia and South East Asia regions.
The Adult Fanchise was also exercised in Manipur way before it was exercised all over India, it stated adding that Manipur was the only place among other States in the country to elect a representative.
The statement claimed that Manipur Constitution Act 1947 is still in effect as the Act has not been repealed as per the Manipur Administration order of October 15, 1948 .
Coordinating body Khurai termed the passing of the Bill in the Lok Sabha as unfortunate and underlined the need for the State CSOs, Meira paibis and different organisations to seek help from developed countries and global
organisations/bodies.
