Education Minister Thokchom Radheshyam today stated that Hindi is not only an official language of India but also the identity of one India.
He said that like the thread in a garland that holds the varieties of flower, Hindi brings closeness among the Indians.
The Minister was speaking at the inauguration session of the two day conference of the 42nd Akhil Bharatiya Nagari Lipi Sammelan held at S Kula Women's College, Nambol.
He expressed that Hindi is the medium through which we as Indians communicate in every part of the country.
It is the medium through which the thoughts and views are expressed though we have diverse mother languages, he added.
Th Radheshyam stressed that there is no loss in learning a new language.
Hindi, being one of the main communication languages of the Nation, learning it will always be very useful when going to other parts of the country, he said.
The young generations of the State when they go to the metro cities and other States for higher studies, sometimes language becomes a barrier.
He pointed out that to lessen these issues, the young minds should be encouraged to learn Hindi.
The annual conference is held under three different themes.
During the programme, award to scholars who have made tremendous contributions in the field of uplifting and popularizing Hindi were honoured.
The awards presented were Vinoba Nagari Samman to Kh Nabakumar Singh of Rashtrabhasha Shikshan Sansthan Ningthoukhong, Manipur, International Nagari Samman to Dr Suresh Chand Shukla, Norway, Dr Sudarshan Dhungana, Nepal, and Dr Manita Neupane, Nepal, Nyaymurti Sharda Charan Nagari Samman to Dr Leena Mahendale, Maharastra, Nagari Samman to Kendriya Hindi Nideshalaya and Sant Ganga Das Nagari Samman to Thingujam Shyam Kishore Singh, Manipur.
Souvenir and books were also released.
A book titled Manipuri Smarika which highlights the rich cultural heritage of Manipur was also released by the chief guest.
The conference which will conclude tomorrow is being attended by 150 delegates from different parts of the country and outside the country.
The annual conference is being organized by Nagari Lipi Parishad New Delhi, Nagari Lipi Parishad Manipur Shakha and S Kula Women's College, Nambol.
Mahamantri, Nagari Lipi Parishad New Delhi, Harilal Pal, Acharya Thongam Radhagovind Singh, dignitaries, resource persons and students attended the inaugural session.
