Imphal, March 22 2012:
Greeting the people of the state on the occasion of Cheiraoba, the proscribed PREPAK has called for unity among the people for a united and sovereign Manipur.
In a statement, PREPAK observed that Cheiraoba is one of the festivals of Kangleipak which indicates its uniqueness among the different communities and race of the world.
Formerly, four lakpas used to go on four directions announcing the beginning of a new year to the people of Kangleipak.
However, during the reign of Meidingu Kyamba, the duty of announcing the New Year was assigned to only one person for each year who were known as Cheithabas.
In today's world, major communities are trying to swallow the small communities in the race of development.
In such situation, people of the state needs to stand united and fight for the sovereignty of Kangleipak and to resurrect the lost traditions and culture.
Those who conserve the rich traditions and culture of Kangleipak are the ones who have the true sense of nationalism, the statement said, while appealing to all to observe the festival and show to the world the rich and unique tradition of the Kangleichas.
