In accordance to the decision taken by the Union government, the state government has started rationing the supply of cooking gas cylinders to the consumers since September last.
However, instead of the provision announced earlier for providing nine cylinders to each consumer at subsidized rate in a year in all Congress ruled states, consumers in Manipur would be getting not more than 3 gas cylinders till March, according to report received from Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) .
Even though the state government had announced through the media that another three gas cylinders in addition to the six assured would be provided to the consumers, no official documents have reached the IOC in the regard.
The report said that the cooking gas cylinders which are being provided to the consumers at the rate of Rs 424.50 weigh 14.2 kg.
If a consumer wishes to take an extra gas cylinder after his/her allocated share at the subsidized rate is over, he or she has to pay Rs 1,068.50 per cylinder.
The trend of issuing gas cylinders to VIPs and police personnel on production of letter from higher up officials has also been stopped since September last.
