Thoubal, June 09 2018:
Rural Areas United Clubs' Organisation on Saturday refuted drug smuggling related charges slapped against one Haji Masleuddin by the Narcotics and Affairs of Borders (NAB) and condemned the arrest of the accused.
RAUCO refuted the charges against the accused at a public meeting presided by the Pradhan of Turel Ahanbi Atoukhong Gram Panchayat Md Idrish Ali Saturday at Lilong Turel Ahanbi.
The NAB had on May 30 said that they have arrested Mohammad Masle alias Haji Basleuddin alias Masleuddin, 63, a 'notorious drug kingpin of an international drug cartel' who had been evading arrest for over two decades.
RAUCO, at the meeting, denounced the alleged charge of the Police that the accused Haji Masleuddin (63) of Lilong Turel Ahanbi Ubakthong Mkha was listed as a wanted person on drug smuggling cases since 1988 .
Haji Masleuddin served as a laboratory attendant at Lilong Haoreibi College and he retired from his job on January 1 last year, said the organisation 'countering the charges of the Police/NAB.
How is this possible that the Police were not able to track a wanted person for 20 years, when the alleged wanted person was at that time working as a laboratory attendant at a Government College, asked the organisation claiming the charge against the accused to be false and baseless.
The organisation further asserted that the accused is not related to any vehicle theft and smuggling cases in the State.
The charges slapped against the accused after he was arrested by the NAB are false and baseless, alleged the organisation and demanded that the accused be released before June 11 .
The organisation warned authorities concerned and the Govt that the organisation along with CSOs and people will launch intense agitation if the accused is not released by the given time (June 11) .
