Menstrual Hygiene Day : Importance of menstrual hygiene, need to overcome menstrual stigma emphasized

A one day awareness programme on "Menstrual Hygiene" was held today at Adimjati Shiksha Girls' Hostel, Chingmeirong today.
The programme was organised by Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) under the sponsorship of the National Commission for Women (NSW), said a press release by MSCW.
Today's programme was attended by Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, Chairperson in-charge of MSCW, members Lourembam Dayabati Devi and T Chuongsin Koireng, Senior Gynaecologist of Imphal Hospital and Research Centre, Professor Ch Manglem Singh and Dean of Directorate of Indian Regional Language as presidium members and resource persons.
Around 100 inmates of Adimjati Shiksha Girls' Hostel also attended the programme and as a part of the programme, sanitary pads were distributed to the inmates by the team of MSCW.

Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang while speaking at the occasion said that Manipur State Commission for Women has been working tirelessly for the welfare of the State by creating awareness in different ways.
The women's commission in particular is striving to empower the women by educating them of the legal rights, socio-economic issues, physical and mental health and so on to ensure that they effectively participate in the important issues.
Speaking in connection with organising the awareness programme, T Chuongsin Koireng said that the programme is held as a part of the observation of World Menstrual Day.
She highlighted the importance of good menstrual hygiene management globally and to overcome the social stigma associated with menstruation.
Professor Ch Manglem Singh delivered speech on menstrual hygiene and the importance of having proper knowledge to maintain menstrual hygiene for a sound sexual and reproductive health while Dr Thokchom Chandramani Singh underscored the importance to overcome social stigma and generalize menstruation, added the release.
