SFs in control of Moreh; search ops conducted

Imphal, November 18 2023: As part of strict security measures taken up by combined team of central and state forces in Moreh, flag marches were carried out in various areas of the border town along with area domination patrolling around the main town on Saturday.

As per a report, a combined team of Tengnoupal district police and C-99/RAF carried out a flag march through Command Post, Mission Veng, Gate No 1, Tamil Mandir, Gate no 2, Nepali Basti, Tali Road and Forest Gate, from 2.30pm till 3.30 pm Saturday.

After the flag march, another joint team of state commando, special commando, Tengnoupal district police, 5AR, 2/8 GR and BSF conducted an area domination patrolling in Moreh main town from 3.30 pm till 5 pm.

However, there were no reports of any arrests made or weapons recovered.

On the other hand, security forces continued to conduct search operations in various places on Saturday and recovered a huge cache of weapons.

According to a police report, a combined team of Moirang Police Station, 5 Sikh Regiment, CRPF and Bishnupur district commando carried out search operation in Uyumakhong area from 6am till 8pm on Saturday, and recovered one SLR (rifle) with magazine, one Carbine, four HE hand-grenades, one 51mm smoke bomb, one WP smoke bomb and two 2-Inch para bombs from a ditch on the side of the road leading to Uyumakhong Manak Loubuk (paddy land).

The seized weapons have been handed over to Moirang police station for further course of action.

A team of Thoubal district police also conducted search operation from 4.30am till 6am on Saturday in Uyal Wangbal area.

In all, 34 houses were searched and 145 people verified.

However, no arrests were made.

A similar search operation was carried out by Imphal West district police at Kasturi Crossing, Dharamshala, Allu Gali and Ngari Gali from 3.40 pm till 4.20 pm Saturday during which 120 people were verified, with seven without identification papers handed over to City PS for further verification.

On Thursday, Manipur police and Indian Army recovered an AK 56 rifle with magazine, one 9mm pistol with magazine, two grenades, four Improvised mortars and ammunition during search operation in the fringe areas of Imphal West.

The recovered items were handed over to the police for further proceedings, according to PRO IGAR (S) .

In another release, the PRO informed that Assam Rifles conducted security meet in respect of providing security during harvesting season.

The meeting was attended by officers of Indian Army, Assam Rifles and Central Armed Paramilitary Forces along with village chiefs of S Kotlian, Loklaphai, Wangophai and general area west of Khuga River in Churachandpur district Wednesday.

During the programme, all central paramilitary forces were briefed about their role and area of responsibility during harvesting, the PRO informed, adding that the programme culminated with joint area domination patrol by security forces to earmark the area of responsibility and ensure safety of farmers of both communities carrying out harvesting in the security zone.
