AR observes World AIDS Day and cleanliness drive in Tengnoupal

Commemorating World AIDS Day, Assam Rifles hosted an insightful awareness lecture at the Battalion Headquarters located in Tengnoupal District on December 2, reaffirming its commitment to community well-being and global health goals.
The session, led by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), aimed to shed light on the ongoing fight against HIV/AIDS, focusing on prevention, testing, treatment and advocacy for those affected by the virus, added the IGAR (S) .
A total of 22 personnel comprising 1 Officer, 6 Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) and 115 Other Ranks - actively participated in the event showcasing a united front against the stigma and challenges surrounding HIV/AIDS.
The lecture emphasized early detection and safe practices, stressing their role in reducing transmission rates and the participants were educated on available treatment options including India's free Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) program which has improved the lives of millions living with HIV, said the IGAR (S) .
In addition to highlighting medical insights, the program fostered dialogue on combating social stigma and the attendees were encouraged to become advocates within their communities promoting a culture of empathy and support for individuals living with HIV/AIDS.
Practical advice on accessing care and support services in Manipur where HIV prevalence remains a concern was shared to empower participants with actionable knowledge, asserted the IGAR (S).
As part of the ongoing "Swachhata Pakhwada" initiative, Assam Rifles also launched a cleaning drive in Tengnoupal District and Tengnoupal Government High School to promote sanitation and hygiene.
The drive, which began on December 1 will continue until December 15, added the IGAR (S) .
A total of 318 participants, including 1 Officer, 17 Junior Commissioned Officers and 300 other ranks and other students, joined the initiative.
Additionally, students from Tengnoupal Government High School and local villagers actively participated, highlighting the community's dedication to the cause.
The Assam Rifles' initiatives align with both the global theme of World AIDS Day - "Leave No One Behind" - and the national mission of Swachh Bharat reinforcing its commitment to fostering healthier and more informed communities, added the IGAR (South) .
