Rs 541.70 cr proposal sent: Nemcha

Even though Cooperation Department was neglected by successive Governments, the new Government led by Chief Minister N Biren has been giving due importance to the Department and the State Government has sent a proposal of Rs 541.70 crore to the Central Government .
This was stated by Cooperation Minister Nemcha Kipgen while discussing a demand pertaining to her department in the State Assembly today .
In accordance to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision and ideals, the State Government has initiated all possible measures to strengthen cooperative movement in the State .
The Department has also taken up necessary measures to revive and streamline six State level cooperative societies which were almost dead, Nemcha Kipgen said .
A competent authority has been set up to re-structure and modernise Manipur State Cooperative Bank and enable it provide quality banking services .
One major factor which made Cooperation Department a sick one is the failure of most cooperative societies .
Out of 143 Cooperative Inspectors appointed in Cooperation Department, salaries for those posted at Chandel, Ukhrul and Kangpokpi have been released.
Pending salaries for the remaining Cooperative Inspectors would also be released soon, Nemcha Kipgen added .
While discussing a demand for Environment and Forest, K Ranjit asked what was the Forest Department doing when forest areas of the State were fast banishing .
Pointing out that Waithoi hill is under serious threat of complete disappearance due to continuous removal of earth, Ranjit asked whether construction of fence around Keibul Lamjao National Park has been completed.
He went on to ask as to why the 141 Cooperative Inspectors appointed by the previous Government have not been paid their salaries till date .
While appreciating the Government's decision to set aside a corpus fund of Rs 10 crore for the State's journalist fraternity, Ranjit asked whether the Government has initiated due process to give monthly pension of Rs 10,000 to retired journalists as announced by Rajya Sabha MP and BJP Manipur Pradesh president K Bhabananda .
D Korungthang asserted that it would be correct to ban jhum cultivation after providing an alternative source of livelihood to those people who depend on the same method of cultivation .
While stating that Forest Department has not been discharging its duties and responsibilities properly, K Meghachandra asked where are the seized timbers and tree trunks being stored .
RK Imo and Abdul Nasir too took part in discussing the demands .
After concerned Ministers clarified to the policy cut motions raised by Opposition Members, the State Assembly passed four demands pertaining to Information and Publicity, Cooperation, Environment and Forest and Commerce & Industries.
