Protest continues against Liquor Bill

Protests demonstration were staged in different parts of Thoubal and Bishnupur districts today by a large numbers of women members against the introduction of Manipur Liquor Prohibition (Second Amendment) Bill 2018 in the ongoing monsoon session of Manipur Legislative Assembly.
Wangjing Keithel Meira Paibi Lup and elders from Thoubal staged protest demonstrations against the introduction of the Bill at Wangjing Keithel and cautioned the authority concerned to step back from their position else intense agitation will be launched.
Meira Paibis of Thoubal Khekman and Thoubal Wangkhem also observed protest demonstration in their locality while Anti-Social Prevention Organisation (ASPO) Lilong staged sit-in-protest at Lilong Mairenkhun.
Kakching Keithel Meira Paibi also protested against the introduction of the Bill.
Apunba Nupi Lamjing Lup Meira Paibi protested the decision of the Manipur Government to legalise the brewing of liquor in the State at Yaingangpokpi Bazar under Lamlai Kendra, Imphal East while a torch rally was also held raising slogans to bring an early solution of the ongoing Manipur University crisis in order to save the career and future of students affected by the present deadlock.
Yainganpokpi Apunba Nupi Lamjing Lup secretary Kh (O) Inaocha drew the attention of State Government on the rising case of substance abuse in different parts of Manipur while urging the authority concerned to arrive at an amicable solution of the ongoing crisis of Manipur University.
Supporting the firm stand of Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) against the recently tabled, Manipur Liquor Prohibition (second Amendment) Bill, Apunba Mayai Kaba Chinjak Thingba Lup organised a torch rally starting from Keinou, passed through Yumnam Khunou and ended at Ngaikhong Khunou.
The rally was participated by more than 500 Meira Paibis from 9 different locality of Keinou.
Speaking to the media persons, Nameirakpam Chanu Chingkheinganbi stated that the Lup cannot accept the Bill to legalise liquor brewing in the state which is against the wish of the people and could jeopardise the effort made by the womenfolk to ban the intoxicating substance.
Meanwhile, sit-in-protest was also staged at Thinungei Keithel demanding the State Govt to withdraw the introduction of Manipur Liquor Bill at Manipur Legislative Assembly.
Speaking at the event, H Basanti, president CADA Bishnupur while denouncing that State Government is ignoring the efforts made by the CADA volunteers along with several Meira Paibi lup to ban the intoxicating substance in the State, he said that the Manipur Govt is concentrating on collecting the revenue only.
