RTI Week 2024 celebration concludes

The Right To Information (RTI) Week-2024 celebration organised by Manipur Information Commission (MIC) came to a close yesterday at Manipur Press Club, Imphal.
The week-long celebration was sponsored by the Department of Personnel and Training of the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Government of India.
The valedictory ceremony was graced by Dinganglung Gangmei, MLA Nungba AC and Chairman of Hill Area Committee; Koijam Radhashyam Singh, State Chief Information Commissioner, MIC; Oinam Sunil, former Chief Information Commissioner and Prof Paonam Gunindro, Vice Chancellor, Manipur University of Culture as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Dinganglung Gangmei said that RTI Act is a pro-people Act that can help in bringing about good governance.
He advised the gathering not to misuse the RTI Act by malicious intention or otherwise but to use this as a tool for bringing a common good and positive changes for the benefit of society.
The Hill Area Committee Chairman asserted that if we wish to save Manipur, it is very important to first understand the culture & traditions of all the communities residing in the State.
He also stressed on the need to educate the younger generations about the history and the bond that has existed since ages between the communities residing in Manipur.
Koijam Radhashyam said that a series of activities dedicated to promoting awareness of the RTI Act and its importance in fostering transparency and accountability in governance were conducted during the week-long celebration of RTI Week 2024 which began on October 5, 2024 .
He mentioned that the RTI Week celebration aimed to foster greater understanding of the RTI Act among the public, encouraging them to utilize their right to access information and ensure transparency in governance.
As a part of the event, prizes were distributed to the winners of the State Level Painting Competition jointly organised by MIC and Manipur University of Culture (MUC) in connection with the RTI Week celebration.
The first prize of the Painting Competition was awarded to Venish Keisham of MUC.
Oinam Amarjit Singh of Imphal Art College and Lanleiba Sinam of UNACCO were awarded second and third prize respectively.
Laishram Bipin Singh, Suraj Yumlembam and Athokpam Maipaksana, all from Manipur University were also awarded consolation prizes.
