CM admits faults in Education department over MGEL delay

Imphal, July 09 2012: The delay in preparing Manipur Government Employees List (MGEL) with regard to Education Department is caused by the errors and discrepancies.

Government is seeing what it can do for the teachers who are not getting their salaries due to non availability of MGEL certificate, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, who is also holding the charge of Finance, told the Assembly today.

Replying to a question raised by MLA Th Bishwajit during the Question Hour of the Assembly, Ibobi observed that normally it takes 10 to 15 days to provide a MGEL certificate to an employee.

However, the delay in preparing the list in Education Department is due to errors and discrepancies in the department.

There are no proper records on the number of employees, employment, transfer and posting, promotion, termination and other informations in the Education Department.

However, the Government will see that the inconveniences being faced by those teachers who are not getting MGEL certificate is resolved, the Chief Minister assured.

Responding to a question of MLA Dr Ng Bijoy, the Chief Minister, who is also the Minister of Arts and Culture, told the House that there is no provision for keeping the Imphal Art College, which is one of the oldest art colleges in NE India, under the state government.

In reply to another question raised by MLA Joykishan regarding wheat quota for the state, CAF & PD Minister M Okendro informed the House that Manipur gets 1106 metric tonnes of wheat every month.

All the details of the allocations for PDS items would be published in local dailies and any officials who are found swindling the public quotas would be dealt accordingly, the Minister attended firmly.

To a question asked by MLA P Brojen, Home Minister Gaikhangam said that the government would look into the inconveniences caused by road blocks of empty drums erected in front Police Stations.

While giving reply a question raised by MLA Meghachandra, Revenue Minister Th Devendro assured proper legal actions against those encroaching inside the campus of Yairipok CHC complex.

All the land allotment in the area was done in 1962 under the MLR & LR Act 1960, he added.
