Governor sympathises; IPSA for forming task force

Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Tuesday expressed deep concern and conveyed sympathy to all the people in Manipur affected by heavy rains accompanied by hailstorm and gusty winds on Sunday.
A release by PRO Raj Bhavan said the Governor expressed shock and disbelief over the storm that wreaked havoc in several parts of the state and caused massive destruction to houses, crops, vehicles and oth er properties.
The Governor also lauded the swift response of the state government for providing immediate relief assistance to the victims, it added.
On the other-hand, volun teers of Meitei Eikhoi Punsinsi (MEIPU) and United We Stand whatsapp group donated Rs 7000 to one Lourembam Bas anta of Nambol Lourembam, who is undergoing treatment at Asian hospital, Kwakeithel after being hit by lightning during the thunderstorm and hailstorm that swept across the state on May 5 afternoon.
The donation amount was handed over to Basanta's family by a team of MEIPU led jointly by KK Wahengbam and Rajen dro Pangabam.
Meanwhile, sharing the rievances of the people affected by the recent hailstorm that left a trail of destruction across the state and caused damages to houses, farms and poultry units, International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA) has urged the government to form task force for compiling relevant data and providing immediate help to the worst-affected section of the society.
In a release, IPSA secretary Bishwajit Ak also cautioned traders not to hike prices of items required for repairing the damaged houses by taking advantage of the dire situation.
Those hiking price of essential items should bear all the consequences if members of IPSA come across any unethical trade practice, he asserted.
Mention may be made that damage caused to over 15,000 houses by the hailstorm and thunderstorm has been officially recorded as on Monday evening.
Briefing the media on the destruction caused, chief min ister Biren cited assessment by deputy commissioners of the affected districts that total of 5600 houses suffered severe damage in Imphal West, Imphal East accounted for 6053 dam ages, Bishnupur 1171, Thoubal 800, Kakching 120, Chura-chandpur540, Kangpokpi 292, Tengnoupal 275, Ulchrul 200, Tamenglong 130, Noney 120, Kamjong 100 and 16 in Chandel district.
