Imphal, February 07 2025:
Many students of Mission Blind School, Tengnoupal are in fear of losing their career because of non-attendance of teachers at the school, said Sontrun Dangshawa, president of Maring Students Union.
Sontrun Dangshawa made the statement during a press conference held today at Thangjing Hall of Manipur Press Club.
Dangshawa stated that normal classes of Mission Blind School, situated at Heikakpokpi under Tengnoupal district, has been frequently disrupted due to the present conflict in the State.
However this year, due to slight improvement in the situation of the State, normal session of the school commenced from January 15.But when members of the Maring Students Union paid a surprise visit to the school on February 5, many teachers and non-teaching staff of the schools were found absent.
Out of the 22 teaching staff, only 9 teachers attended the school regularly while the other 13 were reportedly found absent for most of the time.
There are even some teachers who never showed up at the school, said Dangshawa.
He also said that out of the 7 non-teaching staff, only 2 attended regularly and the rest were absent most of the time.
"When the Government is carrying out schemes such as education for all without leaving any student behind, such actions of the teaching and non-teaching staff, who only enjoy their salary and ignore the misery of students is very unfortunate and condemnable in the strongest terms," said Dangshawa.
"The excuses given by the school principal that the teachers were absent since the school is situated in a buffer zone is totally unacceptable.
Heikakpokpi is not in a buffer zone.
There are many villages like Bijoypur, Pallel, etc beyond Heikakpokpi.
There is even a police station and an army camp near Heikakpokpi," said Dangshawa.
Therefore, the Union has urged the teachers and nonteaching staff of the school to conduct regular classes in consideration of the plight of the students.
The Union warned that if any of the teaching and nonteaching staff are found absent during the next inspection, it may decide to announce their names to the media, asserted Dangshawa.
