MLA Thokchom Lokeshore has been unanimously elected the 25th Deputy Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly in the absence of any contender.
Lokeshore was elected to the 9th Manipur Legislative Assembly on a Congress ticket in the by-election to Khundrakpam Assembly Constituency.
Born at Sagolmang Mamang Leikai, Imphal East, Lokeshore was elected from Khundrakpam A/C in the by election after his father Th Nabakumar passed away.
Besides being an MA (History-1st class), Lokeshore also worked as a
social worker.
Speaker Dr S Budhichandra declared Lokeshore elected to the post of Deputy Speaker unopposed.
Soon after the declaration, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi and opposition leader Radhabinod Koijam escorted the newly elected Deputy Speaker to his seat.
Congratulating Th Lokeshore on being elected the Deputy Speaker, O Joy, I Hemochandra, Radhabinod Koijam and Dr Kh Ratankumar expressed confidence that the new Deputy Speaker would work keeping the dignity of the House, impartial to both the ruling and opposition parties.
Chief Minister thanked all Members of the House for electing Lokeshore as the Deputy Speaker unanimously.
The Chief Minister exuded that the new Deputy Speaker would work keeping in mind decorum of the House.
Speaker Budhichandra said that filling up the vacant post of the Deputy Speaker would help in a big way in conducting House business.
Deputy Speaker Lokeshore while conveying gratitude to all the Members, pledged that he would work sincerely in keeping with dignity and decorum of the House.
