Imphal, July 14 2013:
Making best use of his oratory skills, Leishemba Sanajaoba, the titular King of Manipur, addressed a gathering at Sana Konung today bringing tears in the eyes of his people.
Protesting against the move of the State Government to take over Sana Konung, the protest demonstration cum meeting, which has been going on at Sana Konung for the last 22 days, was attended by people from different parts of the State, both from the hills and the plains today.
The number of people coming to attend the protest demonstration was so huge today that Chongabon of Sana Konung could not hold them together and many of them were seen standing along the main entrance and beyond.
The protest demonstration cum meeting was attended by womenfolk from three Ima Keithels; members of lyricists' organization; Meihaorolgi Enat Kanba Lup; womenfolk of Kombirei Keithel Sorbon Thingel; members of DCYS, Uripok; members of All Manipur Film Producers Association and others.
Addressing the gathering, Leishemba Sanajaoba said that the Sana Konung is an institute in itself.
If the role played by Sana Konung in the Manipuri society comes to a complete halt then a whole lot of changes will creep up in the State.
While giving the responsibility of taking the final decision over the move being made by the State Government to take over Sana Konung to the people themselves, Leishemba Sanajaoba said that he will abide by whatever decision that the people take in this regard.
It was when the titular King stated that "when the State Government takes over Sana konung, my greatest fear would be the inability to save the throne of Ibudhou Pakhangba which has been here in Sana konung for the last many years", that the crowd burst into tears.
The titular king further stated, "No doubt, the sacred Kangla has been developed by the State Government but after the sacred Kangla was taken over by the State Government entry into Kangla has been prohibited and one can only enter it after prior permission.
Likewise, if the State government takes over Sana konung, restriction would be imposed here as well and there will be problems in performing the customary rites and rituals" .
Leishemba Sanajaoba also informed that the State Government had provided an amount of Rs 3 lakhs on yearly basis to Sana Konung from 1949 to 1971.But from 1972 onwards no amount has been paid to Sana Konung by the State government.
With no government support all religious and customary rites and rituals of Sana Konung are being performed with the support of the people.
The titular king observed that the act of the State Government to take over Sana konung is just like serving notice to an ex-MLA to leave his official quarters.
But the State government should realize that the Sana Konung is a private property which does not pay tax to the State Government.
He also informed the gathering that the people of the hills have raised objection to the move of the State Government to take over Sana Konung right from 1949 onwards and till today they are against it.
They have been here in Sana Konung to protest against the move of the government.
