Asserting that government is taking up various welfare schemes for the working class people, Labour, Health and Family Welfare minister, Ph Parijat today said that recently a workers' welfare board has been constituted.
He conveyed this while speaking as chief guest at a function held at Irawat Bhavan in connection with the celebration of the "Great October Socialist Revolution," organized by the Communist Party of India, Manipur State Council.
Parijat recalled that the Great October Socialist Revolution was a very important event as it was related with the making of a society where there is no class difference among the people.
It was a spontaneous uprising of the working class in Russia.
Remembering the day is very appropriate, he observed.
He said that government has constituted a board to look after the welfare of the workers called Building and Under Construction Workers Welfare Board.
Government is taking various welfare schemes for the working class.
The constitution of the board itself is part of the welfare measure taken up by the government.
Workers can now register with the board by paying a fee of Rs 50.Their registration is to be renewed every year.
Those registered workers will get benefits at time injury, casualty and illness.
With regard to the non-confirmation of whereabouts of UNLC chairman, RK Meghen, Parijat opined that it is a right step to find out his whereabouts.
Even though he is a leader of a proscribed organisation, a trial can be conducted against him as per law if he has been arrested.
Former minister and president of the All India Trade Union Congress, Manipur Branch, Dr M Nara who also spoke on the occasion pointed out the importance of the observation day.
MANIDCO chairman MLA N Mangi, CPI state secretary Langoljam Iboyaima and former secretary BB Sharma also attended the function.
