Imphal, September 02 2012:
With the government keeping its eyes closed to the suffering of the farmers, Nongpok Imphal Loumee Sinmee Chaokhat Thourang Lup has begun pumping water to irrigate dried agricultural tracts of about 50 hectares at a cluster area between Ngairangbam and Maklang from today.
The water was pumped in from Maharabi Loukon Pukhri of the organisation along with hiring five 5 HP water pump sets.
The exercise began from 9 am today.
Talking to reporters, Secretary of the organisation, Saratkumar Asem said that the fields in the area have developed cracks due to shortage of monsoon rain this time.
Besides this cluster area, the problem of shortage of water for agricultural activities is also being experienced in other parts of the state, he pointed out.
Even though the Chief Minister himself had given assurance over providing water pump sets to farmers, the same has not been provided to many farmers.
So, there is suspicion in the minds of the people over the possibility of the Ministers and MLAs providing the allocated water pump sets to their near and dear ones.
