Helpline perturbed by lack of charity

Imphal, August 29 2015 : The Medical Helpline for ILP Movement has expressed concern over not providing any monetary assis-tance to the persons, who were injured in different pro-ILPS agitation, despite the assurance given to JCILPS.

Helpline convener Ksh Somorendro, who is also a co-convener of JCILPS, said that around 347 people were injured in police action during the sustained mass movement at different parts of the State.

The Medical Helpline for ILP Movement was set up to provide assistance to these injured persons, he said.

Of the 347 injured persons, condition of 19 persons were critical and surgery for three persons was conducted free of cost at Shija hospital while the helpline has also extended monetary assistance to the family of critically wounded persons, he said.

While one of the seriously injured persons has gone to Guwahati for further treatment, two other critically wounded persons are waiting for surgery at Shija hospital, he said.

Condition of Haobijam Reeson (17) s/o H Mani of Khurai Konsam Leikai is deteriorating as an important nerve of his right hand is badly damaged.

He was hit by teargas shells on his right hand and abdomen during a protest near the gate of 2nd IRB on July 10, two days after the death of Sapam Robinhood.

Due to this grievous injury, he can neither move nor pick up anything by his right hand, Somorendro said.

He said that as his condition is critical, doctors have advised Reeson's family to shift the youth to a neurology speciality hospital.

Saying that Reeson would be taken to Ganga Hospital, Coimbatore on September 4, Somorendro urged the public to extend monetary assistance to his family as the medical expenditure would be high.

Somorendro said that the helpline has received Rs 3 lakh and 60 thousand from different individuals and organisations as donation, out of which Rs 2 lakh 60 thousand has been spent in the purchase of medicines of injured persons.

So far, the State Government has not provided any assistance to injured persons despite their assurance to JCILPS during the second round of talk, he said.
