KSO extends all possible help to stranded folks

Jiribam, May 27 2020: A Shramik Special train from Delhi carrying 1,233 returnees reached Jiribam station at around 2.20 pm today.

It was the 15th train to reach Jiribam.

The passengers were given meals and screened at the station before being taken to their respective home districts for quarantine.

The train had departed Delhi on May 25 .

It may be noted that a train departed from Bangalore on May 23 had arrived at Jiribam at around 9.50 pm yesterday with 1,660 passengers.

Meanwhile, curfew was imposed in Jiribam from 7 am today till 6 am tomorrow in view of trains arriving later.

Earlier before the train left for Jiribam, the Kuki Students' Organization, Delhi and NCR extended help to thousands of stranded Manipuris including students who were to take the Sharmik trains on May 23 and 25, reports our Kangpokpi correspondent.

According to Seiminthang Haokip, information and publicity secretary of KSO Delhi & NCR, food packages and safety masks were distributed to more than 1600 stranded Manipuris including students returning home by a special Sharmik Train to Jiribam from Gurgaon Railway Station in Haryana and New Delhi Railway Station on May 23 and May 25.The relief food packages included dry fruits, biscuits, water bottles, soaps, etc.

It was distributed to all the Sharmik passengers irrespective of community.

The relief items distributed at Gurgaon Railway Station was carried out in collaboration with InSIDE North East and sponsored by Bethany Social Service Society, Faridabad (The Bethany Sisters) while the relief materials distributed at New Delhi Railway Station in collaboration with InSIDE North East was supported by Centre for Advocacy and Research (CFAR) under the sponsorship of Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives.

Seiminthang Haokip continued that besides distributing relief materials, the KSOD leaders and volunteers also helped many passengers in carrying their heavy luggages and supported them in every possible way as they stood in long serpentine queues under the scorching heat for thermal screening right from early morning (6 am in Gurgaon and 10 am in Saket, New Delhi) until they boarded the bus and trains.

The train at Gurgaon Railway Station departed at around 5.30 pm and the train at New Delhi Railway Station departed by 7.30 pm (which was earlier scheduled for 5.30 pm), he added.

The student body thanked InSIDE North East for collaborating with the two sponsors, Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives and Bethany Social Service Society, Faridabad (The Bethany Sisters) .

It also thanked the Centre for Advocacy and Research (CFAR) who were involved in procuring the relief materials, preparing food packets, coordinating with several agencies such as Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiative, Parle G, Hejang Misao and his network i.e.InSIDE - North East and then distribution of relief through community volunteers.

It further conveyed its gratitude to David Lalrinsanga IPS, Joint Commissioner of Police, Special Unit for North East Region; Haulianlal Guite, IAS, Additional Commissioner, Rajasthan Commercial Taxes and Jitendra Sharma, SDM, Gurugram stating that with their help they were able to get the curfew passes to move from Delhi to Gurgaon and to New Delhi Railway Station.

The student body also thanked the team of police officials who supported them all the way in enabling them to carry out the humanitarian service smoothly and successfully while wishing all the passengers a safe return to their homes.
