Held in fatal hit and run case, driver turns out to be wanted man in Delhi

Thoubal, January 16 2013: A driver who was booked in connection with a car accident at Yairipok Siphai Leikai yesterday and which had claimed the life of an elderly man besides injuring several others has turned out to be a person who has been on the wanted list and hunted by Delhi Police in several cases relating to cheating and car theft in Delhi.

The accused driver, Md Juman Khan (23) s/o Md Rashid Ali of Yairipok Singa Muslim Colony was remanded to 15 days judicial custody after he was produced before the CJM Thoubal today.

An elderly person was killed when Juman Khan lost control of the wheel while on a driving test on a Dynamic Mark-II car at 120km/hr speed at Yairipok Siphai Leikai yesterday.

Five others were injured in the incident.

Meanwhile, an unidentified man set on fire the house of Md Juman Khan this morning.

Police said that the involvement of Md Juman Khan in several cases relating to car theft in Delhi came to light after he was pulled up in connection with the accident yesterday.

Assuming the name of Arman Khan, the accused has been on the wanted list of Delhi police in connection with cases relating to cheating and car theft in the National capital.

Numerous cases have been pending against him.

Delhi police had registered a case against Arman Khan under Section 379 of IPC.

An FIR has been registered respectively at Malvia Nagar PS in South Delhi (FIR No242/11, 314/11, 215/11) and Sarojini Nagar PS in New Delhi (FIR No 152/11 u/s 379 IPC) .

A team of Delhi police had already come to Yairipok in connection with the cases on October 14 last year.

As the team could not find a person by the name of Arman Khan (the alias of Juman Khan) in Yairipok, the Delhi police team returned empty-handed.

Juman Khan is also said to have served three terms in a New Delhi jail.

Information about taking Arman into custody has also been communicated to Delhi Police, the police said.

Meanwhile, an unidentified person set the house of Juman Khan on fire today around 11.15 am while a public meeting was underway in connection with the car accident in the presence of family members of the accused driver at Siphai Leikai Guidance Club premises.

The arsonist sprinkled petrol inside the bedroom of Juman Khan and set it afire after a brief scuffle with a woman member of the house.

The prompt intervention of Fire Brigade personnel of Thoubal prevented the whole house from being razed to ground.

Other than damaging some clothing and furniture, no major damages were reported.

Thoubal police commandos and personnel of Yairipok PS put the situation under control.
