Three including 2 women rescued

Imphal, April 12 2016: Volunteers of Anjuman Islahi Muahshra (AIM) and locals of Lilong have rescued three persons including two women from a group of persons who abducted them along with a rice laden jeep from Lilong Ngangou Loukol in Thoubal district today.

AIM members and the locals have caught two persons, who were involved in the abduction.

Speaking to reporters at their Lilong dam office, AIM chief co-ordinator Haji Moulana said that some unknown persons abducted the three persons along with a rice laden jeep they were travelling in from Lilong Lamkhai in Thoubal district at around 4 am today.

After getting information about the incident, AIM members and Lilong locals launched a massive search to trace the abducted persons at different localities of Lilong, he said.

At around 6.30 am, they detected three youths moving suspiciously at Lilong Ngangou Loukol, Haji Moulana said.

AIM volunteers and the locals chased the three youths and caught two of them, he said and added the third youth managed to escape.

He further said that on their disclosure, the three abducted persons along with the jeep were rescued and brought to AIM office.

The two youths who are involved in the abduction have been identified as Md Musha (28) s/o Abdul Manan of Lilong Leihaokhong, Md Tomba (35) s/o Taher Ali of Lilong Haoreibi Awang Leikai while the youth who managed to escape from AIM members has been identified as Md Saddam (20) s/o Fazur Rahman of Lilong Turel Ahanbi Aribam Salam.

The rescued persons have been identified as Maibam Nabadeep (55) of Ukhongshang Mayai Leikai and his wife Maibam Ongbi Thaba (52) and Maibam Ongbi Tondonbi (52) w/o Rajen.

Haji Moulana said that the trio came to Lilong area in the jeep with 13 bags of rice.

Meanwhile, a public meeting was held in connection with the incident at AIM office today.

It was resolved in the meeting that AIM and Lilong locals would take up joint steps to check the activities of anti-social elements.

The meeting also decided to hand over the two youths to the authority concerned and put in efforts to pull up the escaped youth as soon as possible.

On the other hand, the participants of the meeting also condemned the attack on a group of womenfolk at Lilong Nungei wherein 12 persons were injured last night.

They resolved to stand united against the anti-social elements who create hatred among the people of different communities.

They further decided to spread the idea of living together harmoniously.

Later, they urged all concerned not to carry out any activity which may create communal tension.

Meanwhile, All Manipur Muslim Organisation Co-ordinating Committee has said that befitting punishments must be given to those who try to create communal tension.

The civil society and student bodies need to work with sincerity so that people of different communities may reside together harmoniously in the State.
