Imphal, December 03 2020: After Court Appointed MU Administrator Jarnail Singh relieves on personal ground, Senior most Professor of the Manipur University Professor Amar Yumanm has taken charge as the acting VC as per the regulations of the Manipur University, however, MHRD has not issue any order neither communicated the University in this connection thereby creating a sense of uneasiness in the functioning of the University.

A highly placed source said that even as Court Appointed Administrator Jarnail Singh before leaving the University had suggested one senior most Professor to take charge as VC in charge until a regular VC has been appointed before relieving from the post due to his family problem.

He reportedly suggested Prof Amar Yumnam to take the charge verbally as per the University Act and advice to complete the unfinished task that he had taken up for recovery of misused fund.

Source said that the MHRD has been intimated but no communication has been sent as there are pressures from some highly influential people whom the Administrator had initiated action against them.

A source added that the Governor of Manipur, Dr Najma Heptulla , who is also the proctor of the MU expressed surprise over the non issuance of any communication to the MU over the appointment of the Acting VC, as it would create misunderstanding among the University Community.

Not surprisingly, administrative staffs of the MU reportedly is not co-operating with the acting VC which has assumed charge as acting VC as per the Manipur University Act.

It may be mention that Court Appointed Administrator have to relieve the post as his wife health condition has been deteriorating.

During his period many misappropriation of fund has been single out and pressured to return all those misused fund to the University.

Those includes high profile contractors including sitting MLA.

Meanwhile, the process for appointment of a regular VC has already completed and it has been left to the wisdom of the MHRD to appoint one after 5 have been shortlisted on September 21 .

The appointment process of the VC has been put to halt due to interference by former VC AP Pandey who has been dismissed by the Visitor of the University.

The MU under the Administrator had even sent him notice to return back the money which Pandey had utilized by violating the University Act.

He had utilized money for renovation of his quarter which has been located at Sanjenthong area which is in violation of the university norms.

Reliable source said that Pandey has been asked to refund Rs 40 lakhs which he spend for repairing of his quarter located outside the University premises.

Meanwhile, many questions arise on why the MHRD is not intimating the MU in connection with the taking over of the VC in charge.
