Imphal East district police have apprehended one of the accused in the killing of three non-Manipuris at Lamlong on November 10.Announcing this during a press meet, the Additional SP of Imphal East identified the accused as one Lailakpam Kumar alias Eleicha (26) son of L Gouramani of Khurai Nandeibam Leikai, Arambam Leirak.
The police officer said that acting on a tip off, a police team was deployed near Babu Hotel at Khurai Salanthong and the accused was nabbed when he came there today at about 8 am.
One 9 mm pistol along with one magazine and 18 live rounds were recovered from his possession, said the Additional SP.
Imphal East commando OC, Th Krishnatombi, who led the police team said that it was ascertained the man was involved in the killing of the three non-Manipuris during interrogation.
The accused has reportedly confessed that the three persons were shot dead for selling Zarda and Khaini, which are currently banned by some underground outfits.
The three non-Manipuris killed on November 10 are Bir Bahadur Prasad of Balia in UP, his younger brother Shyam Bahadur Prasad and Surendra Rai of Bihar.
The police further said that Kumar is a cadre of the PLA and had undergone 45 days training at Burma in 1995.He was arrested four times earlier by the security force.
