Kakching, August 20 2024:
All Kha-Kanglei Students' Union (AKKSU) has declared that it will begin strict monitoring of boarding facilities and hostels violating guidelines prescribed by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights for operating such businesses.
In view of the mushrooming of many boarding facilities and hostels as a means to earn money, a press release issued by Salam Sonia Devi, information and publicity secretary, AKKSU said that many people are operating such hostels in blatant violation of the NCPCR rules and regulations.
Stating that such gross flouting of guidelines can only spell trouble for the students, AKKSU pointed out that outbreak of skin conditions among students due to use of dirty water in boarding facilities has been detected.
Additionally, lack of nutritious food, disproportionate number of students in comparison to number of rooms, lack of proper health and hygiene facilities, disproportionate student-teacher ratio etc are affecting students in various hostels and boarding facilities, alleged AKKSU.
Urging the District Administration to monitor the situation and take up precautionary steps, AKKSU has also appealed to parents and guardians to lend support to their endeavour.
