State joins nationwide strike against doctor's murder

Imphal, August 17 2024:
Doctors in the state joined the nationwide strike launched by Indian Medical Association (IMA), halting non emergency medical ser vices for 24 hours on Saturday.
The strike was called in response to the tragic rape and murder of a resident doctor at RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata, demanding strict punishment of the culprits involved and stringent laws to protect the safety of health care professionals.
However, all essential services will be maintained and casualties remained functional during the strike.
Doctors and students of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal staged a protest in front of RIMS Hospital OPD on Saturday.
The protest was organised by RIMS Resident Doctors' Association (RDA), in solidarity with IMA Headquarters' call for nationwide withdrawal of service (OPD and elective surgeries), and participated by members of TAMOA and senior members of IMA, Manipur State Branch.
During the protest, it was stated that the protest will continue until the justice is delivered.
The students used placards with different slogans including demanding justice for the victim, safety for the health care workers, central protection act and more.
They also stood in solidarity with authorities of RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata in fighting for the justice.
Meanwhile, a sit-in protest was held by doctors and students of Dental College, RIMS, Imphal on Saturday condemn ing the brutal killing of a Post Graduate Trainee (PGT) at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, West Bengal.
Doctors, nurses, resident doctors and students of JNIMS also staged a protest in front of the OPD in solidarity with the nationwide protest called by IMA on Saturday.
The protest was participated by IMA Manipur State Branch vice president Dr Ngangom Arunkumar, JNIMS Student's Association president Laishram Lenin and others.
On the other hand, Matai Re habilitation Care Centre (MRCC) staged a protest inside the campus on Saturday in response to the nationwide protest called by IMA against the brutal rape and murder of a PGT doctor at RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata.
Doctors and staff of Wangkhei Eye Hospital also organised a sit-in protest at the hospital premises denouncing the horrific incident.
Shija Hospitals & Research Institute (SHRI) also organized a sit-in protest on Saturday in response to the rape and murder of a PGT doctor at RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata.
The protest was part of a nationwide response organised by IMA and Association of Healthcare Providers of India (AHPI).
More than 300 participants, including MBBS students, faculty members from Shija Academy of Health Sciences, and consultants from Shija Hospitals, took part in the protest.
Meanwhile, faculty members and students of Churachandpur Medical College, Imphal campus staged a sit-in protest in front of Kyamgei COVID Hospital on Saturday against the brutal assault of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata.
During the sit-in, protestors held placards inscribed with slogans like, 'Her White Coat deserves Respect not Violence', '10 Years of Hard work gone in one Night', 'Is the reward she got for saving lives, justified', 'No Mercy to rapists', 'Save the Saviour', and 'Stop Violence against women'.
The faculty and staff of Wangkhei Eye Hospital also staged a sit-in protest in front of the hospital on Saturday.
Similarly, doctors and staff of Raj Medicity halted non-emer gency medical services and staged a sit-in protest on Saturday, condemning the rape and murder of a PG student at RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata.
The staff of Sangai Health Care and Research Centre in Uripok Bachaspati Leikai on Saturday also staged a sit-in protest against the brutal fatal assault of a PG student at RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata.
Meanwhile, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) Manipur in collaboration with medical students from Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Imphal and Thoubal Hospitals respectively, organised a protest at RIMS on Saturday in response to the tragic killing of Moumita Debnath in Kolkata.
The demonstrators carried placards and chanted slogans demanding thorough and transparent investigation into the incident.
They emphasised the need for accountability and justice for the victim, stressing that such acts of violence cannot be tolerated.
ABVP state joint secretary Rajengong Golmei, ABVP karyakatas and medical students Sewantika Kaphle, David, Chingkhei, Yaiphabi, Geetanjali, Lanchenbi, Sandhyrani, Anshuman Tripati, Praveen, Romiya, Oinam Bharat Singh, RK Rabichandra Singh, Dr Indira Aheibam, Abhishek Kumar, etc., also took part in the protest.
