Many pray for peace, Harmony in Manipur

Imphal, May 14 2023: Expressing dismay over the recent conflict which has posed a serious threat to the bond of brotherhood and harmony among the communities residing in the State, many organisations and groups have appealed to all the people of Manipur to refrain from any form of violence and come together for a peaceful solution.

Manipur University Muslim Welfare Association (MUMWA) has appealed to all the brothers & sisters of Manipur to uphold peace and communal harmony to the fullest extent feasible.

"It is imperative that we constantly remind ourselves of the importance of respect and love among us.

Whatever took place was unprecedented and has shattered our long-held vision of a united and peaceful Manipur", said a release issued by MUMWA.

"The dream has been shattered, but the hope has not been", said MUMWA while appealing to all the community & religious leaders, student organisations and CSOs to unite at this critical juncture.

The association also urged all the student organisations currently operating in Manipur University (MU) campus to come together in these difficult times to help restore harmony and a flourishing academic environment.

It also urged the MU administration to manage the academic schedule and the Government of Manipur to bring back normalcy in the State at the earliest.

"It is time to regret, repent and reconcile to fulfil our long-standing dream of.

a peaceful and harmonious Manipur", said MUMWA while extending solidarity to all the innocent victims and their families in this hour of grief.

Sharing the pain and grief of the people affected by the recent turmoil, Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO) HQ, Manipuri Muslim Social Unification & Upliftment Organisation (MMSUUO), Kiyamgei Muslim Youth Pioneer Club (KMYPC), Mohammadan Youth Development Sporting Association (MYDSA), Tolenkhul Development Club (TDC) Lilong, and Keirao Sabal Leikai Youth Club (KSLYC) have appealed to all the communities of Manipur to set asside their differences and show proper restraint & control.

In a release, the organisations urged the Central and State Governments to take immediate actions to help the people displaced by the recent violence and restore law & order in the State.

Stating that many innocent people are still suffering, the organisations appealed to the stakeholders to refrain from playing politics in this crucial juncture and work together to promote peace, unity & harmony among all the communities.

Recalling the close bond & ties between the indigenous communities of the State, Sahitya Thoupang Lup, Sagolband Lukram Leirak, has appealed to all the communities to set asside their differences and come together to protect the integrity of Manipur.

Expressing concern over the prevailing situation in the State, Manipur State Bharat Scouts And Guides has appealed to the Government to initiate necessary measures to restore law & order and , prevent similar tragic incidents in the future.

In a release, Manipur State Bharat Scouts & Guides also urged all concerned to maintain calm and shun violence to restore peace in the State.

Manipur State Bharat Scouts & Guides also convened a meeting today to pray for the innocent victims of the recent turmoil and their families.

Highlighting that the prevailings situation in the State has left the labourers, women vendors and daily wage earners vulnerable, the Valley & Hill Labour Union, Manipur and Kanglei Sintha Semkat Lup, Singjamei Bazar have appealed to the State Government to initiate necessary measures to help the weaker section of the society.

In separate releases, they also appealed to the businessmen and shop owners to not hike the prices of es-sential commodities during these difficult time.

Extending solidarity to the people afflicted by the recent violence, Youths Foundation For Fitness & Service (YOFFS), Manipur and Union of Social Upliftment (USU), Khurai have appealed to the Central and State Governments to take immediate actions to help the people taking shelter at various relief camps and restore law & order in Manipur.
