Greenland gives details of negative to positive status

Ukhrul, July 06 2020: Putting the record straight following the report that one girl from Greenland locality in Ukhrul was found positive after her discharge after 31 days of quarantine, convenor of Greenland COVID-19 Committee, C Nganingshing said that the girl who has tested positive returned from Delhi on May 25 .

She stayed at the JNV Ramva IQC for 14 days.

Her swab test was done on June 7 and her initial negative result was received on June 15 .

Thereafter, after completing her 14 days quarantine period at JNV Ramva, she was shifted to the GQC on June 16 along with six others of the same locality, said the convenor.

Detailing further, the convenor said that on reaching the GQC, it came to light that two results out of the seven inmates were yet to be received.

All the seven inmates were put together in one big common room and the GQC Control Room got in touch with the Ukhrul Covid Control Room who then suggested a retest of all the inmates.

The convenor said that the reply from the Ukhrul Covid Control Room left them confused as only those certified negative are allowed to come to the GQC for another 14 days quarantine.

Nevertheless the retest of the seven inmates was conducted on June 25 and the results came out on June 30 but this time the result of only six came back as negative while the result of another was not given, said the convenor.

When this was brought to the notice of Ukhrul Covid Control Room, a doctor on duty there verbally said that if the inmate has already completed her quarantine period and if she showed no complicacy then it would be safe to let her go, said the convenor and added that in fact the girl in question here has already completed 31 days quarantine which was also informed to the doctor.

Based on the telephonic talk with the doctor, the girl was discharged with the others with the advice that all should stay indoors for at least 6/7 days, said the convenor.

However on July 1, that is one day after the inmates were allowed to go back, the control room informed that one of the 7 inmates had tested positive said the convenor adding, "We were shocked" .

All the inmates co-operated with the call that they all return to the quarantine centre, said the convenor and added that after this they sealed their houses.

Meanwhile, Greenland has appealed the authority concerned to speed up the necessary tests and other processes such as contact tracing.

People have started facing the hardships compounded by their area being declared a containment zone.

80-85 percent of the households are farmers, labourers and daily wage earners.

Paddy farms need to be attended to as this is the peak season and if the fields are left untended then the people may face a famine like situation.

Moreover there are 18 students who are in Class-XII and they have to appear for the remaining exams soon, said the convenor.
