COVID-19 Committee continues to help returnees

Convenor of Hunphun/Ukhrul COVID-19 Committee has stated that the committee is continuing to help returnees who are lodged in different quarantine centres of the district to make them feel at home.
Phunghon Shaiza, while speaking to this correspondent, said that Ukhrul Village Authority Hunphun/Ukhrul Covid-19 Committee headed by Hunphun/Ukhrul village headman HA Sarimaya as the chairman was instituted on the first 1st week of March to supervise COVID-19 management in Ukhrul.
Stating that the committee had established 18 quarantine centres in Ukhrul to house returnees including those who are not a native of Hunphun/ Ukhrul village, Phungton informed that the committee in collaboration with different Ukhrul localities continues to execute catering and management of all quarantine centres fairly.
The Ukhrul MLA Alfred Arthur Kanngam arranged rations for all quarantine centres, he said.
The convener also mentioned that transportation cost of all returnees discharged from institutional/community quarantine centres to Ukhrul village quarantine centre is all borne by the committee.
More than 500 persons from different villages of Ukhrul and Kamjong districts are currently housed in 18 quarantine centres of Ukhrul village.
The convener also mentioned that every family in Hunphun/Ukhrul village contributed Rs 100 each for the management of the committee, apart from a donation from some well-wishers.
However, due to fund constraint, the committee faces many problems, he added.
