Imphal, November 28 2015 :
Working Committee for Expansion of Wangjing Municipal Area has threatened to move the Court if the Government fails to arrange Wards according to population ratio in the course of upgradation of Wangjing Lamding Municipal Council.
Speaking to reporters at Manipur Press Club, committee president Laishram Inaomacha said that Wangjing Lamding Municipal Council has a population of 5532 at Wangjing area and 3487 at Lamding area.
Ward No 5 and 10 of Wangjing Gram Panchayat and Ward No 1, 2, 3 and 4 of Lamding Gram Panchayat have been occupied in the course of recent expansion of the Municipal Council, he said.
Now the Government is trying to make the new four wards of Lamding into five wards so that the total number of Wards of Lamding area may increase to eight although Wangjing area had greater number of representation and population before upgradation, he said.
Inaomacha further said that delimitation of Wards and upgradation must be done according to the population ratio and taking the earlier structure of the Wangjing Lamding Municipal Council into account.
He said that making equal number of Wards in Wangjing and Lamding is discriminatory as Wangjing had greater population in the earlier Council.
Inaomacha threatened to move the Court if the Government fails to arrange Wards according to population ratio.
