Imphal, August 28 2013:
A team of Union Ministers would be arriving here soon to get a first hand knowledge of the controversial border fending, Deputy CM Gaikhangam, who is also in charge of Home, has informed.
Interacting with media persons at ISKCON here today, Gaikhangam stated that the border issue is a very serious issue and there is no question of the State Government taking it lightly.
However, the matter could not be settled by the State Government alone.
Since the border issue is under the purview of the Central Government, the State Government has been sending every detail of what's happening at the border area to the centre every minute.
The Chief Minister himself is in constant touch with the Centre, he added.
Gaikhangam said that the Committee, which was formed to look into the border issue with Principal Secretary (Home) Dr J Suresh Babu as Chairman has already inspected the disputed border fencing area at Moreh on August 26.The committee will be submitting a report and the State Government will be minutely discussing it.
The Govt is also planning to send one of its own Ministerial team to the border area to take stock of the prevailing situation.
He informed that the decision of sending a Ministerial team to Moreh to take stock of the border fencing issue was taken during a Cabinet meeting.
The Cabinet will further decide as to who would be leading the Ministerial team.
The Deputy Chief Minister further stated that the border fencing issue could not be altogether false or altogether true.
The Centre is also taking the matter seriously.
We need to face the issue and solve it together, because as a Manipuri no one would be feeling happy to lose any parts of the State's land to any other nations.
Replying to a query, Gaikhangam asserted that the remarks made by Principal Secretary (Home) Dr J Suresh Babu during the inspection visit at Moreh on August 26 that the ongoing Indo-Myanmar Border fencing was just a security barrier has nothing to do with the state Government.
Gaikhangam maintained that it seems either the media had misquoted it or Suresh Babu made a mistake.
Nonetheless, the Government is looking into the matter and whether he actually said those words or not would be investigated into.
