UG involved in cop killing held

Imphal, February 22 2011:
Imphal East Police Commandos today claimed that one of the two UNLF cadres arrested by them yesterday in a joint operation with AR troops was involved in the killing of Ningombam Sunder, a police constable whose marriage date had been fixed on February 6 .
A statement of the Imphal East SP said that two UNLF cadres, Khomdram Sushil @ Tamnganba (28) son of Itomcha and Phanjoubam Winnerjit (20) son of Shyam, both from Bheigapati Leikai Tensubam Leirak were nabbed by a combined team of Imphal East Police Commandos, 23 and 28 Assam Rifles from Keishamthong Ahanthem Leikai yesterday around 9.30 am.
One .32 pistol marked as Petro & Brata Auto Pistol loaded with two live rounds in the magazine was recovered from the possession of Sushil.
Sushil who joined the outfit in 2006 was involved in the killing of Ningombam Sunder (25) son of N Kunjo of Sawombung.
He is working under the command of self styled 'Lt Col' Wanglen (241 Battalion) after receiving training at Myanmar's Layang village and his army number is 2088 of 32nd Batch of UNLF.
Winnerjit joined the outfit in this current month February through Sushil.
Two activists, one belonging to PULF and another to the KCP(MC) were also nabbed by police commandos in other counter insurgency operations.
The PULF cadre identified as Md Wazimuddin @ Ithem @ Izim (32) was nabbed around 11 pm of February 20 from Keirao Mayai Leikai area.
The KCP(MC) activist, Ningthoukhongjam James (27) son of N Ibopishak of Yumnam Patlou Mayai Leikai, was arrested by a team of Lamlai PS and 23 AR yesterday from Yumnam Patlou.
They were involved in extortion of money from the people, government officials and business centres, the statement added.
It may be recalled that the killing of Ningombam Sunder had sparked off protests and rallies including submission of a memorandum to the CM.
