Around 20 houses damaged

Around 20 houses and Rhema Public Academy
School have been damaged by flood waters
overflowing from a breached portion of a retain-
ing wall constructed along tunnel numbers 21
and 22 of the Jiribam-Tupul railway line near
Lukhambi Bazaar.
While members of the affected families
have been displaced, most of the classrooms
of Rhema Public Academy School have been
flooded by mud waters.
Members of Zeliangrong Students' Un-
ion, Manipur (ZSUM), Longmai Area
Village Council and village leaders inspected
the school.
Shangru Gangmei of ZSUM said such
natural event has never taken place in the
past in the area.
It is clear that the retaining wall was
constructed without giving due emphasis to
its qualitative aspects.

and provide adequate assistance to the af-
fected families, Shangru asserted
Kanan Kamei, chairman, Longmai Area
Village Council said that due to poor quality
construction work and low standards of vari-
ous developmental projects taken up by the
State Government, people of Noney area
have been severely affected.
The State Government should be take up
necessary measures to prevent such unwanted occurrence, he said.
