Imphal, May 19 2016 :
The indefinite bandh imposed by the JAC
constituted against the assault of Tourangbam Tarini has affected
normal life along Uripok-Kangchup road for the second consecu-
tive day today.
The road wore a deserted look and shops and other busi-
ness establishments remained shut today as well.
From the early morning onwards, large number of locals
came out on the road to impose the bandh.
They placed hard objects and woods etc and burned tyres
in the middle of the road starting from BT flyover.
Those who came on the road were forced to return or take
alternative routes.
School vans and buses and media persons were however
given free passage.
The bandh was strictly imposed at Laikhurembi, Gopalji
Leirak, Sorbon Thingel, Mohor House Leirak, Uripok Can-
teen, RIMS road, Polem Leikai, Yambem Leikai, Achom
Leikai, Khumanthem Leikai and Naoremthong.
Police personnel were seen deployed at various places to
thwart unwanted incidents.
It may be mentioned that the indefinite bandh began from
5 am yesterday.
Uripok locals and JAC members have been demanding
action against the police personnel who assaulted T Tarini on
May 8 night.
The JAC alleged that the Government has been maintain-
ing silence on the issue although memoranda have been
submitted to the Chief Minister and local MLA L Nandakumar.
It is said that Tarini is continuing her hunger strike at
JNIMS security ward.
Meanwhile, the JAC in a statement said that they would
boycott IMC election in protest against Government's silence
on the issue.
On the otherhand, they would also fully support the
JCILPS sponsored stir to be commenced from 4 am of May 20 .
