Education Minister holds consultative meeting with CSOs

Education Minister Dr Thokchom Radheshyam on Friday held a consultation meeting with representatives of civil society organisations (CSOs) of the State to apprise them, the initiatives being taken up by the department for students during the ongoing lockdown due COVID-19 pandemic.
Representatives of the United Naga Council (UNC), Kuki Inpi, United Committee Manipur (UCM), All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO), Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN), Committee of Civil Societies Kangleipak (CCSK), All Manipur Muslim Organisations Co-Ordinating Committee (AMMOCOC), Lipul Lup and Coalition for Indigenous Rights Campaign (CIRCA) participated in the meeting held at the Conference Hall, SSA Babupara.
During the meeting, Director Education (S), Thokchom Kirankumar highlighted the key steps and measures being taken up by the department following the closure of educational institutions in the State.
Th Kirankumar said that the department has started uploading e-textbooks for Class I - X on BOSEM website www.bosemebook.in.
The department is also gearing up to develop a website for the e-contents being collected through the e-resource teams created by the department.
He added that this will become a great resource in times to come.
Interacting with the leaders of the CSOs, Dr Thokchom Radheshyam stated that the Education Department has taken up numerous initiatives to facilitate students' learning during the Nationwide lockdown.
Lauding the contributions of the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), the Minister said that there are certain areas where the Government cannot reach, and appreciated the organisations for their support.
He said that in these trying times, the Government needs suggestions and opinions from the CSOs who are working for the well being of the people.
Dr Thokchom Radheshyam said that it is very fortunate for Manipur that it has become a coronavirus free State after the two patients successfully recovered from the virus.
"We still need to be vigilant and take precautions to safeguard ourselves from the virus as there is no vaccine as of now," he said.
Appreciating the efforts of the Government and the Education Department, the representatives of the CSOs pledged their support and help for the welfare of the people.
Asking for all necessary measures for the welfare of the students, the CSOs also pitched the possibility of use of pen drive for availing the e-textbooks by the students where there is no internet facility.
The representatives of the CSOs also apprised the Minister that there is a need to strictly control the prices of the essential commodities.
They requested the Government to take up strict actions against those who are charging exorbitantly for essential commodities.
Commissioner Education (S) T Ranjit Singh and officials concerned were present during the meeting.
As a token of appreciation for hard work and efforts of the CSOs, financial support was also extended by the Minister.
