Imphal, May 03 2018:
The tense stand-off over occupation of the footpath adjacent to Bhairodon Maxwell School, Thangal Bazar by non-local vendors (fruit sellers) has been resolved after the State Government and the JCILPS struck an agreement today.
Fruit stalls erected over the footpath were vandalised by volunteers of JCILPS Students' Wing on the ground that they posed hurdles to movement of students as well as the public.
Leaders of JCILPS Women Wing and Students' Wing held a meeting with MAHUD Minister Th Shyamkumar at the latter's residential quarters today regarding the matter.
The two sides agreed on shifting the non-local fruit sellers to an alternate site within one month.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Shyamkumar said that the matter would be discussed at a Cabinet meeting and the non-local fruit sellers would be shifted to an alternative site within one month where they would not pose any hurdles to movement of students and the general public.
As the matter has been resolved, JCILPS student volunteers who were arrested yesterday would be released today without any condition, Shyamkumar added.
