Bhavan supplies free power

Imphal, February 28 2014 : Manipur Bhavan located at Chanakyapuri, Delhi runs a power plant of 33 KV at its ground floor and it is supplying electricity to some three/four Bhavans of other States but no tax/rent or deposit is collected for the power supplied and there is no document.

The way the power plant is managed is rather astonishing and it is not at all a positive sign, stated General Admi- nistrative Department (GAD) Minister Phungzathang Tonsing.

Phungzathang made this comment in response to a call at-tention motion raised by MLA L Ibomcha in the State Assem- bly today about mismanagement of the power supply plant installed at the ground floor of Manipur Bhavan, Chanakyapuri.

He stated that the Government has been considering how the Chanakyapuri Manipur Bhavan can be improved.

The bha-van was constructed by CPWD in 2001 and the space for installing the power plant was incorporated at the time of construction.

After enquiry, it has been learnt that no rent or deposit is paid for the electricity supplied by Manipur Bhavan to some three/four neighbouring bhavans of other States.

Such manner of running the power plant is not justifiable, Phungzathang stated.

The bhavan has its RC/DRC but they have been transferred elsewhere.

As for the appointment of a non-Manipuri receptionist on contract basis, the same step was compelled by the State's sick financial condition.

The bhavan's canteen was entrusted to a local man and then to non-local.

But in both the cases, the canteen could not func-tion properly.

With no other options left, a tender process has been initiated, the GAD Minister informed the House.

It is also being examined whether the canteen should be entrusted to the team of Classic Hotel or some other professional groups.

L Ibomcha said that Manipur Bhavan is in total shambles as if there is no authority to take care of it.

All the eatables sold in the canteen are very costly and no local dishes are available.

Observing that very few people can afford the prices of eatables sold in the restaurant of Classic Hotel, Ibomcha said that things would be more costly if the canteen of Manipur Bhavan at Delhi is handed over to Classic Hotel.
