Imphal, November 17 2019:
The indefinite bandh imposed on Imphal-Mao highway has been called off following Chief Minister N Biren's assurance that no land of Awang Sekmai would be allotted to the army.
The Chief Minister gave this assurance at a meeting with representatives of the Sekmai Protection Committee, Sekmai Scheduled Caste Development Committee and the Advanced Women Society today.
The representatives of the three organisations also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister.
Notably, the three organisations had started imposing indefinite bandh on the highway protesting against any plan to hand over areas of Awang Sekmai to the army's 57th Mountain Division.
However, the bandh has been called off following the Chief Minister's assurance that the State Government has no plan to allot any area of Awang Sekmai to the army.
