JAC withdraws 48-hr general strike

Thoubal, October 25 2024:
The JAC Against Kidnapping of Akoijam Angou has temporarily withdrawn its 48-hour general strike across Thoubal district after arriving at an understanding with top officials of District Police Thoubal.
Notably, Akoijam Angou was abducted by unidentified persons in Uripok near Ibotonsana Higher Secondary School on September 30 .
He has remained un-traceable since then.
Early this morning, bandh supporters enforced the strike at Thoubal Keithel and blocked the road.
In the morning, normal life in Thoubal was significantly impacted as passenger vehicle services appeared to be suspended, Thoubal Keithel bore a deserted look and the shops in its vicinity remained closed.
However, around 9 am, a team led by Additional SP (Law & Order) and Thoubal Police OC arrived at the spot and made a request to suspend the bandh.
The two parties failed to reach an agreement and the police team gathered the crowd by the roadside allowing the commuters to pass through.
The team continued to secure the area to prevent any unfortunate incident.
Then, around 2 pm, people gathered at Thoubal Melaground and blocked National Highway 102 at Yairipok Lamkhai.
Once again, a police team arrived at the spot and allowed traffic flow to resume.
Later, representatives of the JAC and top officials of District Police Thoubal held talks.
During the meeting, the two parties agreed on some undisclosed conditions.
Following this, the JAC announced the temporary withdrawal of the general strike in view of the upcoming State-wide Ningol Chakkouba celebration and in order to avoid imposing any inconveniences upon the public in this regard.
