Awareness programme on FSB held

Thangmeiband Block Congress Committee (TBCC) organised a discussion session on National Food Security Bill 2013 at the Thangmeiband Hijam Leikai residence of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) General Secretary Jyotin Waikhom today.
MPCC General Secretary Jyotin Waikhom, IMC Ward No 1 Councillor S Binarani and TBCC President Thang-jam Ibotombi attended the programme as chief guest, guest of honour and president in the function respectively.
Jyotin Waikhom said that 75 percent of rural and 50 percent of urban population would be provided 5 kg of rice per person per month at Rs 3 per kg after the implementation of the Bill.
The Government would also provide free meal to women during pregnancy and till months after child birth through local Anganwadi centres, he added.
Free meal would also be provided to children who are the age group of six months to six years, Jyotin said and adding that children at the age group of 6 to 14 years years would be fed under mid-day meal scheme.
The General Secretary further said that every beneficiary is entitled to get food allowance if FPS agents are unable to provide foodgrains in time.
Saying that there would be no 'hunger' in the country as the Bill has already been passed, Jyotin said that 'Right to Food and 'Right to Nutrition' would be guaranteed once the Bill is implemented.
Acknowledging the contribution of women, ration cards would now be issued in the name of the eldest woman, who is above 18 years of age, of a family, Jyotin Waikhom added.
He said that the awareness programme was organised under strict instructions from AICC President Sonia Gandhi and Chief Minister O Ibobi.
