Imphal, March 05 2020:
Expressing concern that many disciplines and inbuilt qualities for personality development and grooming society have started to erode contemporary Manipuri culture and way of life, Executive Director of NIELIT, Imphal, Thingujam Prameshwor has called for restoration of intrinsic values of Manipuri cultures.
He was delivering the presidential speech at the inaugural function of the 2 days NIELIT Annual Sports Meet, 2020 which started today at the institution's complex at Akampat.
Prameshwor further stated that the presence of many inbuilt characters and disciplines which are intrinsic to the Manipuri cultures followed in the past, helped the Manipuris a lot in excelling in sports.
He also opined the gradual disappearance of playgrounds in the State is another major factor for the lack of disciplines among youths and the deterioration of the society.
Saying that sports has no caste, creed and religion, the Executive Director went on to urge the NIELIT students to participate in the institution's annual sports festival with zeal.
Speaking as the chief guest, Uchekon Zilla Parishad Member Seram Neken noted that sports and culture make Manipuris honoured and respected throughout the world.
He said that Manipur has been known as the powerhouse of sports in India as the State dominates others in the country when it comes to the field of sports.
Maintaining that great civilizations like the Greek civilization, paid much emphasis on games and sports, Neken claimed that Manipur is not less than Greek civilization in terms of sports.
Observing that sports industry will be the most profitable industry in the State, the Zilla Parishad Member also urged all concerned to groom sports potential among the youths.
The function was also attended by NIC, Manipur Senior Technical Director Laishram Shyamjit Singh as the guest of honour.
