Imphal, August 27, 2012:
In connection with the demand to compensate the damages inflicted on oil tankers during the 48 hours total bandh called by the JAC Against Diversion of MGNREGS Fund, Senapati, the authority concerned has received assessment reports from two parties, thereby creating a problem regarding which report should be taken as genuine.
According to the OC of Mao police station, oil tanker owners were asked to submit a report about the damages suffered by their trucks in line with the Cabinet decision to compensate for the damages.
But two reports were submitted, one from the Drivers' Union and the other from the Transporters' Union.
Whereas the Drivers' Union has been demanding that the compensation should be given through them, the transporters maintained that the compensation should be given according to their assessment report as it was their insistence that the Government agreed to give compensation.
While one report put the number of damaged trucks at 80, the second report claimed that 82 trucks were damaged.
The Drivers' Union has been given a bill proforma and asked to re-submit their assessment through proper channel.
Police would send whatever reports it received to the Government.
The Government should decide to whom the compensation amount should be given, added the OC.
