Shyamkumar reaches out to Tobuamai villagers

Forest and Environment Minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar on Friday (October 19) visited the Tobumai village, Mao Assembly Constituency in Senapati district while the villagers gave him rousing welcome with open arms.
It may be mentioned that Forest and Environment Minister along with Losii Dikho, Minister of PHED and Printing & Stationary, who is also the local MLA of the area, visited the village after attending the Cabinet meeting and other functions at Kangpokpi district on October 19.Addressing the villagers of Tobumai at St Peter's Church, Minister Th Shyamkumar highlighted the importance of environmental conservation.
He called upon the villagers to come forward and contribute in combating global warming by conserving and protecting the environment and wildlife.
He stressed on the importance of environmental protection and stated that the conservation is correlated to human survival.
He said if the environment is destroyed in the hills than its adverse effect will be felt not only in the hills but also in the valley.
Speaking on the schemes and projects provided by the State and Central Government, he urged the local villagers to encash on the benefits provided by the various departments.
He also handed a cheque of Rs 10 lakh to the villagers issued by the Environment Directorate to build a water body for conservation of water in the area.
Assuring the villagers for the ample supply of tree saplings including yongchak for plantation at the hills and near the surroundings of the water body, the Minister stated that public support is needed for the success of any project or programme implemented by the Government.
Minister Losii Dikho also interacted with the villagers and addressed their grievances.
Local leaders and villagers also attended the welcome function at the St Peter's Catholic Church, Tobumai village.
