Cycle rally, public meeting against drug menace held

Bishnupur, October 20 2018:
A campaign on eradication of drug abuse and selling of drug with the theme, "Mission Drug Prevention & Control" kicked off at two districts today.
The campaign held in the form of a cycle rally was flagged off from Churachandpur and different parts of Bishnupur districts followed by a public meeting at Kwakta Keithel.
Organising Committee Mission Drug Prevention & Control in association with Bishnupur DC, Churachandpur DC and Municipal Councils, Zilla Parishads, Gram Panchayats and various Govt Depts in Bishnupur district joined hands to organise the campaign.
MLA Moirang AC, P Sharatchandra, MLA Oinam AC, L Radhakishore, MLA Kumbi AC, S Bira, Manipur State Minority Commission Chairperson Dr Syed, Kwakta Municipal Council Chairperson Md Maheruddin attended the ceremony as presidium members among others.
The rally from Moirang was flagged off from Phuballa by Bishnupur DC and Bishnupur SP while another rally from Mukto High School was flagged off together by MLA P Sharatchandra and MLA Thanga AC T Robindro.
Similarly, Agriculture Minister V Hangkhanlian flagged off the rally from Churachandpur DC complex.
Around 1000 individuals from different clubs, organisations, CSOs and MLA P Sharatchandra, Bishnupur DC, Churachandpur DC who took part in the rally gathered at Kwakta Bazar for the public meeting, later in the day.
Speaking at the meeting as resource persons, Psychiatrist Bishnupur District Hospital, Dr N Gyaneshor and Director Child Line Bishnupur L Pishak, stressed on the negative impacts of drug abuse in the society.
On the other hand, a spot painting competition for Moirang constituency was also held as part of the campaign under the said theme where eight schools with 108 students from class VI to X participated.
Meanwhile, P Sharatchandra conveyed that drug menace is a challenge to be fought jointly by the citizens, armed forces and the representatives of the people.
He appealed all to refrain from indulging in selling of drugs or abusing drugs and further appealed to start an alternative source of livelihood.
He urged the participants to save the society, the present generation and the generations to come from drugs and to protect the environment.
A student from LCM High School and two others from Little Birds School bagged the first, second and third positions respectively and were awarded with a cash prize of Rs 3000, Rs 2000 and Rs 1000 respectively with certificates.
