One day orientation programme held

A one day orientation programme on cyber crime and electronic evidence was organised at High Court of Manipur, today, under the aegis of Manipur Judicial Academy and Manipur State Legal Service Authority .
Speaking at the event as the resource person, CEO of Intelligence Quotient Security System, Dr Harold Costa stressed on the topic of Cyber Crime Investigation and On-line Bank Fraud and Detection .
He explained that debit cards without golden colour chips on it left side are not secure and stated that between July and September last year, more than 32 lakh debit cards in the country which did not have the chip were compromised .
He pointed out that 70 percent of the debit cards in the country still do not have the chip and suggested changing the cards with one which possessed the chip .
"The failure of the bank in protecting the data of the customer and providing proper security systems is considered a serious offence", Harold Costa added .
He conveyed that the rate of cyber crime in the country has increased 19 times from 2005 to 2015 and the State of UP recorded the highest number of cyber crime cases .
Harold Costa expressed that there is a high chance of the country having the largest number of cyber crime victims as all the email sites, except Rediff, are owned by foreign countries which makes it difficult for any investigating agency to investigate cyber crimes cases .
He further stated that there is a high possibility most of the people's mobile numbers are being used by some unknown individual (s) to open WhatsApp accounts and warned against sending important documents through social media .
The main motive of those who commit the offence of cyber crime are financial gain, insulting the modesty of a woman, fraud calls and personal revenge, Costa added .
Neeraj Aarora, Advocate on Record, Supreme Court of India, also spoke on the topics of emerging challenges of cyber law and Information Technology Act and appreciation of electronic evidence .
Police personnel, lawyers, Judges and law students attended the orientation programme.
