Appeal for separate lane for cyclists

Manipur Cycle Club has urged the State Government to take up steps to provide a separate cycle lane for cylists and those who commute using cycles .
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club yesterday, Manipur Cycle Club former president Bachaspatimayum Deben Sharma said that the recent rise in the number of road accidents involving cyclists are due to the rapid increase in the number of motor vehicles and disregard of proper traffic rules by the drivers .
It is becoming more riskier for the cyclists to even travel along the road, he added .
Expressing desire for the authority concerned to take up necessary steps to create a separate lane for cyclists, Deben also urged the State Government to cancel the driving licenses of the driver who have no regard for traffic rules and to issue proper licenses after conducting the necessary tests for issuing the said licenses .
He also urged the authority concerned to give extra emphasis to road side parking rules and the constant encroaching of the available space on the sides of the roads by the road side shopkeepers .
Deben also urged all the vehicle driver to take into account the welfare and safety of other people on the road, specially the cyclists, while driving along the roads to prevent accidents.
