Bishnupur, October 25 2024:
Borayangbi Youth Progressive Alliance has demanded swift renovation of the roads under Borayangbi Gram Panchayat in Kumbi Assembly Constituency while stressing on their deplorable condition and its impacts on the public, including schoolgoing students and patients seeking medical care.
Sheikh Abdul Hasim Chesam, secretary, Borayangbi Youth Progressive Alliance has threatened to initiate intense forms of democratic protests if their demand remains unheeded.
A team of Borayangbi Youths' Voluntary Organisation, Borayangbi Youth Progressive Alliance and media persons travelled across the GP to inspect the state of the roads today.
During the inspection, it was pointed out that the 12-km Sagang to Sugnu Road has not been repaired for the last 10 years.
This road stretch is used by people of different communities including Meitei, Meitei Pangal and Kom and also serves as an important trade route.
The team also inspected the pathetic condition of the 2-km Borayangbi Thongkhong to Chingkhong (Panchayat Ghar) Road (also known as Khunjaopali Road) .
Further, the inspection team also discovered that there was no black topping of the Chingya Road and Borayangbi Badempur EGS School to Laingoubi Chingkhong Road and only Water Bound Macadam (WBM) had been laid.
As part of the inspection, the team of mediapersons and Borayangbi clubs also looked over the condition of the 1-km Borayangbi Awang Mamang Leikai to Khajingkhombi (Sallam IVR) Road and 1-km Borayangbi Awang Maning to Borayang Mangpham Road.
The black topping of Sallam IVR was found to be incomplete while the latter was only laid with WBM.
Additionally, the four year old bamboo bridge built atop Borayangbi Sandangkhong Maril at Khunjaopalli was also assessed today.
A majority of the roads inspected today were found to be in such terrible states that they were sludgy in times of rains and sources of dust pollution otherwise.
Speaking in this connection, Sheik Abdul Hasim Chesam referred to Chief Minister N Biren Singh's announcement to undertake road renovation work across the State after the rainy season.
He rued that the deplorable condition of roads continue to remain unrectified.
He also questioned if Borayangbi GP is not included in the Chief Minister's road renovation programme.
Stating that Borayangbi is located 65 kms from Imphal, he pointed out the hardships faced by people due to poor roadways.
It takes 2 hours to travel along the 40 km road stretch to reach Bishnupur District Hospital.
As a result, it has caused extreme obstacles to the people in emergency medical cases such as baby delivery, he added.
Thus, he urged the Chief Minister and the concerned authority to ensure speedy renovation and repair of the roads in Borayangbi GP .
