ATSUM kicks off poster campaign

Kanggui, February 03 2014: All Tribal Students' Union Manipur(ATSUM) led by its president Emboi Serto today started poster campaign in Senapati and Sadar Hills in connection with its proposed indefinite economic blockade in tribal areas of Manipur beginning February 16.ATSUM leaders have also consultation with various civil society organisations.

ATSUM has declared to impose indefinite economic blockade in all tribal settled areas of the State if its long pending demands are not meted at the earliest after the student body held a sit-in protest in front of MBC Church, Chingmeirong on Saturday.

The tribal student body led by its president Emboi Serto today launched its poster campaign and interaction with CSOs of Senapati and Sadar Hills and declared its position statement as well.

At Senapati, various tribal civil bodies leaders showed their concern over the student body's efforts and struggles for the cause of tribal people in the State and declared to announce their support and endorsement sooner or later to the proposed agitation.

In the meantime, the student body received same response at Kanggui from several civil bodies including Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills which assured to render fullest cooperation while terming the student body demands "genuine as well as reasonable" in the interest of all tribal community of the State.

While declaring the position statement of the student body Emboi Serto asserted that ATSUM has been trying its best to convince the Government to look in the affairs of the tribal communities on various issues and waited patiently for the Government to act and fulfill its promises but rather the Government has taken for granted and has neglected the proposals for too long.

With regards to their demands the position statement issued by publicity wing of the student body said that ATSUM is seriously concern over the Government adamant denial of not making the Rules for Manipur Reservation of Vacancies in Post & Services (for SC & ST) Amendment Act 2007 while mentioning that PK.Singh, Commissioner DP and Secretary to CM, in 2009 have already promise the student body that Rules will be passed in the next Assembly but sessions after sessions the Government is yet to present the same before the Assembly to discuss and pass the bill.

If the Government fails to put the bill in this Budget Session the ATSUM will be compelled to act as per its own wisdom.

The Student body also demand for a separate Directorate to look after the affairs of the Hills in Education department and have an MoU with the Government where both the party agreed to empower the AD Hills as per Order No.11/12/2K-SE(S) dated 1st June, 2007 but today the agreement is slowly and indirectly taken away for which the AD Hills has become non functional and powerless.

Therefore the ATSUM is compelled to demand a separate Directorate to look after the affaires of the schools in the Hills.
